Artist Statement

I have always been a watcher, an enthusiastic participant, an idealist, a pragmatist, a romantic, and a cynic. In this manner I live, and in the living, my art is conceived. From my observations, perceptions, and experiences I harvest the imagery that becomes my art. Because I believe the visual arts to be a communicative form, I have chosen the figure as my language; and emotion has become my vocabulary. It is essential for me that the gesture represent one moment in the natural flow of expressive movement. I have therefore chosen not to use models in my work. I believe interpretation rather than copying lends itself to that end.

I make art in order to communicate my impressions of our society in as honest, personal, and lasting a manner as I am able.
